About Me
“Students today have opportunities to hear music in many ways that didn’t exist until recently, such as YouTube and iTunes. My students will be exposed to a variety of musical styles in their lessons and during lab time in the studio. These might include classical, pop, hymn tunes or jazz pieces, through solo and duet literature or other small ensembles. In addition, students who are capable of performing for adjudication will be invited to do so as these opportunities arise. All students will have the opportunity to record their polished music on my digital keyboard, making decisions about instrumentation and balance as part of the recording process.”
Education & Background
Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Butler University, and a Master of Arts in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Texas Woman’s University.
Therese has taught piano for over 30 years to children and adults of all ages and abilities. She serves as parish keyboardist at Saint Bernadette Church in northeast Louisville and she also works at Kentucky Country Day School accompanying 5th through 12th grade choirs. For 11 years, she accompanied the Upper School Choirs at Louisville Collegiate School. Therese does free-lance accompanying in the Louisville area, records for Mass of the Air, plays for various services for the Archdiocese of Louisville, and adjudicates at keyboard events throughout Kentucky. She attends KETS (Keyboard Ensemble and Technology Seminar) held annually at the University of Central Oklahoma, and is a published composer with Ogilvy Music.
What I Teach
I teach piano, incorporating theory, technique, and ensemble experience into my lessons. I combine my love of the acoustic piano with that of the best in digital keyboard technology. I teach private lessons and I also do ‘partner’ lessons with two students sharing an hour-long lesson.
